Tara Chambler fanart (The Walking Dead)

Guess it's done. Yes, I like Tara. And hopefully that doesn't make her die again, because the characters I like tend to die. And in a series like The Walking Dead the chance is even higher. If you know more than me: no spoilers please!
Anyway, a bit about this portrait. I started it to relax a bit, but it turned out to be harder than I expected. I thought since her face looks so characteristic, it would be quite easy to do her portrait quickly, but it wasn't. This time I am not going to color this and I got back to the character designs that I started last week. And actually in the reference photo Tara is wearing a checked shirt and a necklace, but I didn't really care and didn't paint them in.

Futuristic police vehicles

Took me about...40 minutes maybe. It was supposed to be done more quickly but I spent some more time designing these things. Maybe I'll work on these more or maybe not. With this one I took a break from the portrait/fanart that I started with yesterday evening and continued today. As soon as it's finished I will post it for sure. Right now there is just one little thing that seems to be off but I don't know what it is. So I am not satisfied until I figured that out.
This one here though looks still very sketchy, didn't even get rid of the outlines yet plus they are kind of rough. Well anyway it's enough to present this as an idea.

Portrait in progress

I thought I'd be finished quickly, but it takes me longer than I expected and I will not finish it today. Probably I will continue it tomorrow instead. It was or is just for fun and at this point I don't think this is really good, but tomorrow I will find out why that is. Well anyways if you are not familiar with "The Walking Dead" you probably don't know who this is anyway, if you are though, I hope you can figure out that this is supposed to be Tara. I like Tara.

Speedpaint

Called "darkness approaches", a topic from the daily spitpaint group on facebook withing the 30 minute limit. There are still my unfinished characters lying around, but I needed to get my head free and I felt like I needed a little break from the characters again. If I was to change this one, I'd move the biggest of those spaceships more to the right side of the image, but only 30 minutes so it was too late when I saw it and I already felt like a cheater because I used about one more minute to erase some of those spots that are supposed to be the city lights...

Line drawing (character design)

Work in progress. Even though I wanted to start colouring as well, I didn't make it further so I only have the line drawings to show. I suppose there'll be more to post tomorrow.

"Yamete" character design - part 2

So these are the characters (well two out of four) for the project I joined. Rare recently, but Manga styled illustrations. They will be. These are just the character concepts and probably not going to be used in the book. The lower guy is the one who I see as the main character and I posted him here before, but after talking to the author of the story, I changed him a slight bit. He is grumpier now, the hair is different, changed the lips a bit as well as one of the tattoos, plus the pants. Actually I was re-drawing him completely, or over-drawing, whatever. The upper character is the happy kind. I am one of those person who always falls for the angry or thoughtful characters, was never a fan of the happy and bright ones. Guess I like it gloomy...

Tattoo ideas

That's really unexpected now, I'm just trying to help with a Tattoo. Actually that's only for the four animals. The plants and mushrooms on the bottom are older ones that I did for my own tattoo, but I didn't get it tattooed yet (and it's just an idea, won't be 100% my own design and that is good). It's just for a background to the tattoo on my forearm.
However the newer and colourful ones are not for myself and probably the tattoo artist will overwork them or possibly not use anything of it, I don't know. Consider this as something I did for fun.

More female character design

Sci-Fi Lady part three. So I've put some more work into the outfit(s), these are the (in my opinion) best combinations out of the sketches I made today. Let me know if you have any favourites, may it be a whole outfit or only certain parts. For today though, I am done. The next time when I continue on this one, I might get into colouring and probably a couple of tweaks here and there. Means, if not some other, brand new ideas pop into my mind. And maybe I'll have to work on the character designs for that Yamete-book before I do anything else. But that's also not today. Today is as good as over and I am not doing anything anymore, except for cooking the dinner.

Sci-fi lady sketches

I didn't spend too much time on this...actually very little so it could be better. Will invest more time the next time I work on it. Today I was doing too much other stuff and just wanted to get rid of my ideas quickly before I call it a day. Personally I tend towards the idea with the shoulder pads (kind of...you know what I mean...) but I also want an asymmetric something in the design. This isn't it yet. but we'll see.
This is going to be a design for the character wearing daily clothes. No combat suits or super fancy stuff. Not now, at least. But the hairstyle should speak for the character...

3D Character Model (ZBrush)

Okay, I admit that I didn't continue on the alien guy. I will, but today I felt like just doing the next character. The next? Yeah, the next. I have something in mind and there will be another next or two or three or... who knows. This one is not finished yet, as you can see she doesn't even wear shoes and that is not supposed to be. Also that overall she's wearing is not finished yet. So let's wait and see how she will look like in the end, because I don't know it either. Same for her as for the alien guy: There will be a 2D design of it, the sculpting is just supporting my workflow, my 2D skills are better anyway and yeah I consider myself a 2D person after all. Even though I would love to dig into ZBrush more and I will, but it will take time and I am not in a hurry to learn more about it.

Alien character 3D model

Done in ZBrush, this part is done for now. Next thing will be to use the model as a reference for a 2D image or probably more than one. Because I will try some things on him. I am not sure about the colours to use and I will give him some clothes and do some variations eventually. At first I wanted to make him bluish and I still kind of like the idea. But will it remind of avatar too much? The green though reminds me of hulk. And something red would remind me of Daredevil. Or something greyish? I hope I'll find out. Or if you have any favourite or a suggestion, don't hesitate to let me know!

Alien character design part 2

Unfortunately, there is not much more to see at this moment. I've been working on the body, but I am not satisfied with it yet and it's only in an early stage so I thought I'd just upload some more shots of the face. And let you at least know that it's still in progress.
As I wrote yesterday the body looks quite much like a human body. It or he will have two arms and two legs to stand on. But I am not sure yet how to make him look a little bit more alien-like without going totally crazy. He should be still have an understandable and logic physique for sure. Should be able to move every body part properly.

Alien character design

Not sure if this should be called "creature" or "character"...maybe it's more like a character. Doing some ZBrush again. There are certain things that I like to start with a 3D sculpt. It's a different way to explore a design than oly in 2D. I think I like to use ZBrush when I don't have anything particular in mind and I am not sure where to start. Because it just gives me the freedom to rotate my design (in this case this caracter), see it from every ankle, in- ore decrease volumes, move and morph around and all that stuff. Next thing is to work on the body. It will be something pretty much human looking I guess. When I'm finished I want to use it as a reference for a 2D character design. I am already looking forward to this. It's all fun since I usually do humans only.

Creature Sketching video

Hey, I did a video this time.
This video is showing how I sketch some creatures. Better to say: creature heads. If human or not, I like to start characters with drawing their faces first. It makes me figure out more about the character or person I am drawing, I'm getting myself an idea about it.
I think I will sooner or later make a video with audio commentary. Let me know if there is anything in particular that you would like to see and hear about in the next video.

This is a quick one into my sketchbook. It's a kind of funny technique that I used here and it was the first time that I tried that. Basically I was drawing everything on the page of my sketchbook. But then I wasn't satisfied because I couldn't bring out the contrasts very well on the white paper. Like I couldn't do any highlights. So I taped a very thin yellow paper on it (I remembered having that lying around and I don't know what this paper was actually for...) and then drew some darker areas and also highlights with white. And that is it. Uhm...yeah it's pretty small like only about 11cm in height.

28 animal sketches

Today's work. I collected some interesting animal photos and sketched them all into my sketchbook. It's nearly full now and I can not wait for finally using a new one! I shouldn't buy sketchbooks with hundreds of pages because I like drawing into new and fresh sketchbooks so much! But mostly they contain many pages, at least the ones that I found so far. This one has 250 pages and most of the times I drew on both sides of every sheet. Now I have 5 pages left, meaning 10 if I draw on the backsides too.
When I was a kid animals were my favourite subject to draw. I collected many of small animal toys from plastic, studied books about animals (that kind with pictures and descriptions) but nowadays I rarely come back to drawing animals. Even though they are really fun and it feels the same way as if I was drawing a human portrait. Animal portraits.

Character Design Sketches

Why am I still awake and why did I suddenly start sketching this late? Since I don't have my laptop here right now (I am not at my desk) I am posting from my mobile and I hope it won't totally mess up the formatting. Anyway here are a few sketches that I did into my sketchbook!

Destiny fanart

That was close, but the Destiny fanart for the contest run by destinyblog.de got finished just in time! This is my guardian by the way.
I think I missed the "Suros Regime" writing on the gun but now it's too late and it's just a detail, who cares, I'm glad to be done and will relax a bit now. And tomorrow I will start something new. Hooray!

Destiny fanart in progress

Okay, the streaming to Twitch did work, kind of. I had a few viewers, yay!
I wanna do it again but I am a little bit in hurry with this fanart, so I continued without streaming so that I don't have to watch what's happening in the chat besides and can fully concentrate. The fanart is for a contest and the deadline is tomorrow. I hope I can be done in time! At least I started with colouring already but for today I think I am done since I feel tired and need a break from it.
If you want to see my stream as long as it's still available in my past broadcasts you can go here.
This is as far as I've come today.

I am using ingame screenshots as reference. The character is supposed to be my own guardian and the environment is supposed to be on Venus, like somewhere in the Ishtar Sink.
