SMG – Weapon Design Sketches

Hello folks,

some submachine-gun sketches today. That'll be for the character that I am working on as well, Now I am trying to build one of these in ZBrush. That may take a while so if you don't hear from me tomorrow it means I am still working on it and need some more time.
So see you hopefully tomorrow!
Have a good evening or whatever daytime it is for you (I love the Internet)!

Character Armor Design – helmet –

Good evening,

I am back again with helmets. The last missing part for the armor design, then I'll either show off some details or add some weapon(s) or some extra props. I am not sure yet but will figure it out eventually.
The visor might also be dark blue, but for now I decided for this turquoise that's pretty much popping out but maybe when I see it tomorrow I don't know what I was thinking when adding such a strong color.

Anyway let's find out and please check back tomorrow!

Character Armor Design – turnarounds –

Good evening!
Okay this is good, the turnaround for the character-sheet is done and it's colored. Next step will be a helm for the character. Her name is Hilda by the way. Hopefully the helmet will be done and up in this blog by tomorrow, because I am planning more. This will be nice, so please stay tuned and check back for more if you like this!

Character Armor Design – color variations –

Hello and good evening!

I was drawing all day and did the character turn-arounds and then tried around with colors. Out of eight variations, I combined some a bit and now the final three options are what you see on the image above.
For today I won't do anything on this anymore, but I'd like to hear your opinion. If you have a favorite, let me know in the comments below!

Thanks and see you soon!

Character Armor Design – work in progress –

Hello there,
today even more armor. I am drawing a turn-around so the character's clothes can be seen in four different angles. This may take a while. But probably the two fron views are the hardest part,  the backside will most likely have fewer of these plates (as here  on the legs, arms and shoulders). I kind of like this dark grey, but I will try around with colors later, I have a dark blue in mind. But also a light colored version could be interesting.

Hope to see you again next time and bye!

PS: I have to fix the collar on the left one, it's supposed to be highet like on the right sketch.

A lot of armor

Good evening,
today I was working on my next character. I did a couple of sketches into my sketchbook and now trying around with it in Photoshop. The different colors are each on a different layer and tell me what the material is. To be more specific, it's just telling me how hard or flexible and soft the material is. Green is har surface, for example.

Yamete project illustrations

Hello and welcome (back?)!
So as I said I had to work on the Yamete project again (if I want to meet the deadline that is) and here are two maybe finished ones. The cover as it will be printed in greyscales with the title on it, the authors and my name are still missing though. The other one is one of the character illustrations pimped up and with the name. If I get the okay for this, all four characters will have a page like this.

Character Portrait (Salomis)

Good evening again,
today a portrait of my RPG character Salomis. Yep, I'm nerding around more than ever and joined some people to play pen and paper roleplaying games. We've just started (Dark Heresey/Rogue Trader from Warhammer 40K) so I am not sure yet what her clothes would look like. But this would be her face. Ha. And because just playing isn't enough and I like to dig into that deeper, I've started a blog. No, I mean Salomis started a blog. For you english speaking people the bad news are, that her "Diary of an assassin" is in german. Sorry for that. That's why this time a german text follows below...

Guten Abend zusammen,
heute mal ein deutscher Post. Juhu!

An octopus tattoo

Hello again!
Maybe it's not finished and surely not approved yet but this is today's work. Not even sure if it's supposed to be coloured or just greyscale. Anyway I did the color for myself, didn't take that much more effort.
I really want to do character designs o something at the moment, but I have to do this tattoo design first and when it's done, I should work on the "Yamete" project again. So that is what you can expect to see in my blog next.

Spaceship silhouettes

Oh my,
now it became so late. I have to go to bed, wanted to finish these earlier but...well whatever, it's 23:30 pm already. I did some custom Photoshop brushes and used them to create these spaceship silhouettes.
That's about it folks, good night!

Just a little creep

Good evening,
Or should I say "good night"? Because I am about to go to bed, but before that I wanted to draw just anything. Unfortunately I didn't really find enough time for that recently, I hope and believe that it will change soon.

Portrait painting of Angela Gossow (time lapse video)

Hello and good evening!

It's a while ago that I did this (digital) portrait painting of Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy. If you wanna check out the post, wich is from early August by the way, you can do that by just clicking here
Now I finally found the time and motivation to put the video that I recorded together and here it is. No audio commentary this time. You may or may not have noticed, that my videos with two bars (one on the top, one on the bottom) in the preview image are the ones with audio commentary. If there is only one bar on the bottom, that means you won't hear me talking.
Also the video is sped up, the original time is about two hours in total. Maybe you'll take a look and I hope you like it. See you next time!

Portrait painting of Liam Neeson

Good afternoon!
Yes, I am writing earlier today. So it happened again. I was watching a movie yesterday and that made me want to draw one of its actors again. This time it's Liam Neeson. He has this awesome nose and an overall unique face. That's so cool, as you may know how I love unique faces!
It took me about 3 and a half hours I think, but it would have been 3 hours if my laptop didn't crash when I was halfway done. I also recorded the process. The part that got lost, that I just had to do again. Probably not a big deal in the video.

Female character portrait sketches

Hello again,
so today I started with another character. No desert this time, I promise! Some of these baldies are a little bit off but I am just trying to find a face that fits to the personality that I have in mind. I already have two favourites. And one that could be used for something else I have in mind. Feel free to tell me your opinion.

See you next time!

Coloring a character in Photoshop (Video)

Hello and good evening!

Now this is the reason why I didn't post anything in the last few days. Editing this video kept me busy. I am not a pro at this but I hope it turned out good enough to be enjoyable or maybe help somebody. It's pretty long, so be aware, but I'd be happy about a few views!
As the title say it's a video about coloring a character in Photoshop. I am using PS CS6 and on this one I am coloring a character design, something Sci-Fi with a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. While you can watch everything step by step and see me adding all the details and stuff, I try to explain and give some background infos on how I work in the audio commentary.

Portrait painting of Elizabeth Banks

Good evening everyone!
Again I watched a movie, this time there was Elizabeth Banks in it and I wanted to draw her. Because I like her mouth! Who knows who I'll come up next with? You never know, ha! Okay, but maybe next one will not be a portrait of somebody existing. Oh, and as often, I spent more time on this than I wanted to. Below you can see the steps for the painting. Done in Photoshop as always.

Little sketch of Jessica Alba

When I watched a movie with Jessica Alba, I suddenly got into the mood of drawing her. I tried to find a photo reference that's not for the red carpet or whatever made up scene with Barbie-smile, I just like the natural looking ones more on who ever it is.
This is a pencil drawing into my sketchbook, but I added the white highlights digitally later. That didn't take long.
